Picnicking is a common activity along the Empire State Trail. Picnic tables are located at many locations along the trail, primarily in local parks and trailheads adjacent to the route.
Picnic tables generally are not found along more rural sections of the trail. However, trail users are welcome to informally stop to eat on benches or lawn areas along the trail.
While trash receptacles are found at some parks and parking areas, the rural sections of the trail are “carry in, carry out”, meaning picnickers will need to carry out their trash.
Generally speaking barbeque grills are not found directly on the trail route. Visitors wanting to cook food will need to seek out local parks near the trail where barbeque grills are provided.
