Trail Overview

This Empire State Trail section is an 8-mile on-road route, designated on the shoulders of busy state roads. It is appropriate for experienced, long-distance bicyclists comfortable riding next to vehicle traffic. This section is not recommended for casual bicycle riders or hikers. The section starts in Comstock at the intersection of North Quarry Road and Route 22. The route runs west along Route 22 for 1 mile, and then heads north for 7 miles on the shoulders of State Route 4. The bicycle route travels past woods, farmlands, and scenic rural areas. This section ends in the Village of Whitehall, where local services are available in this historic hamlet at the southern tip of Lake Champlain.
