Trail Overview

This Empire State Trail section is an 8-mile on-road route, designated on the shoulders of busy roadways. It is appropriate for experienced, long-distance bicyclists comfortable riding next to vehicle traffic. This section is not recommended for casual bicycle riders or hikers. The section starts at the intersection of Route 4 and North River Rd in Fort Miller. The bicycle route runs north along Route 4 past woods, farmlands, scenic views of the Hudson River, and the Champlain Canal. The northern two miles are designated on local streets through the Village of Fort Edward, where local services are available. This section ends at the Fort Edward Village Recreation Park (at the intersection of McIntyre and Factory Streets).
