The 5.5-mile off-road Champlain Canalway Trail segment, which has a stonedust surface welcoming walkers and bicyclists of all abilities, starts in Waterford at the intersection of 5th Street and Route 32 (Broad Street). The trail runs north on the towpath adjacent to the historic Champlain Canal, passing by wetlands, woods, and abandoned stone canal locks.
