Trail Overview
This 7-mile Empire State Trail section is a paved, off-road trail welcoming bicyclists and walkers of all abilities. The trail starts at the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village in Amherst, at the intersection of New Road and Tonawanda Creek Road, and heads east along the Erie Canalway Trail. This scenic route follows the south side of the Erie Canal, passing through woods, fields, and water views of boats and wildlife. Trailhead parking areas are available at a number of points along the route. The eastern end of this section is the dramatic “Five Locks” park in the City of Lockport, where services and street parking are available.
