Trail Overview

This 8-mile Empire State Trail section is a paved, off-road trail welcoming bicyclists and walkers of all abilities. The trail starts in north Buffalo at Hertel Avenue, just west of Interstate I-190. From there, the off-road path heads northeast to the City of Tonawanda, providing dramatic views of the Niagara River, which is the border with Canada. The Shoreline Trail section ends in the City of Tonawanda, at the western entrance to the Erie Canal. Street parking and visitor services are available in Buffalo and Tonawanda, and at a several waterfront parks along the 8-mile route.
