Trail Overview
This 12-mile Empire State Trail section is an off-road stonedust trail welcoming bicyclists and walkers of all abilities (stonedust is finely-ground, compacted limestone, which provides a flat and durable trail surface). The trail starts at the dramatic “Five Locks” park in the City of Lockport, and heads east on the Erie Canalway Trail to the Village of Middleport. This scenic path is on the north side of the Erie Canal, passing by farmlands, woods, scenic vistas, and water views of boats and wildlife. Trailhead parking areas are available at a number of points along the route. Public services are available in Lockport, Gasport, and Middleport (there are no services between the three villages).
