Trail Overview

This 10-mile Empire State Trail section is an off-road paved rail-trail, welcoming bicyclists and walkers of all abilities. The section begins at Elmsford (at Route 119) and runs north along the Westchester North County Trail. Despite passing adjacent to several busy parkways, the rail-trail is surprisingly quiet and parklike, largely buffered from adjacent development by dense woods. The north end of this trail section is in the Town of New Castle, at a trailhead parking area at the intersection of Route 100 and North State Rd. There are several designated parking areas along this 10-mile section. Although there are no services directly on the trail, a variety of local businesses can be accessed through short detours off the route.

Cycling Directions

Cue sheets provide step by step navigation instructions for cycling the trail in both directions.
