Trail Overview
This 16-mile Empire State Trail section is an off-road paved trail, dedicated to bicyclists and hikers only. This scenic rail-trail begins in the Town of New Castle, at a trailhead parking area at the intersection of Route 100 and North State Rd, and runs north along the Westchester North County Trail. The trail passes through Yorktown Heights, and then enters Putnam County at Baldwin Place, following the Putnam Trailway north from there. The north end of this section is in Mahopac, at a trailhead parking area at the intersection of Croton Falls Road (CR34) and Mud Pond Road. There are several designated parking areas along this 16-mile section. Although there are no services directly on the trail, a variety of local businesses can be accessed short distances off the route.
