Hudson River Valley Greenway

The Greenway is a unique state entity charged with creating a Greenway Trail System and a locally based Regional Planning Compact in the Hudson Valley. The Greenway administers grant programs supporting land use planning, regional trails, and heritage education programs.

The Heritage Area celebrates and promotes the Hudson River Valley’s natural and cultural resources for the benefit of the nation, and administers grant programs supporting heritage programming, interpretation, and marketing.

In addition to operating the Canal System, the Corporation administers large stretches of the Erie and Champlain Canalway Trails. Its website provides bicycling and camping information, detailed trail maps, and resources for trail visitors. The Canal Corporation also administers an annual grant program for trail and access improvements.

The Heritage Corridor’s website provides a wealth of information about the Canalway Trail, including interactive trail maps, resources for trail users, information on attractions, and a calendar of upcoming events. For kayakers and paddlers, information is also available about the NYS Canalway Water Trail.

PTNY
Parks & Trails New York

PTNY’s website features an interactive map of the Empire State Trail, including a comprehensive Canalway Trail section that includes lodging and attractions, resources for trail users, and information on other multi-use trails across the state. A non-profit organization, PTNY also publishes a print Erie Canalway Trail guidebook, organizes an annual 8-day bicycling tour from Buffalo to Albany, and manages volunteer programs along the Canalway Trail.
