Trail Overview

This 11-mile Empire State Trail section is part of the 36-mile Albany-Hudson Electric Trail, which runs from the City of Hudson to the City of Rensselaer. The off-road “AHET” Trail starts in Greenport at the intersection of Route 9 and Delaware Ave, and heads northeast past woods, streams, wetlands, farm lands, and small hamlets. The segment ends at Rothermel Park in the Village of Kinderhook, where there is public parking and access to local services. This segment is primarily an off-road rail-trail with a stonedust surface, welcoming walkers and bicyclists of all abilities. However, visitors will encounter several short on-road sections, where trail users share the road with vehicle traffic. In particular, a 1.5-mile on-road section on County Road 25 in the hamlet of Stockport is intended only for experienced bicyclists.

Cycling Directions

Cue sheets provide step by step navigation instructions for cycling the trail in both directions.
