This 11-mile Empire State Trail section is part of the 36-mile Albany-Hudson Electric Trail, which runs from the City of Hudson to the City of Rensselaer. The segment starts at Rothermel Park in the Village of Kinderhook, and heads north past woods, streams, lakes, wetlands, farms, and small hamlets. The segment ends at a trailhead parking area in the Village of Nassau, in Rensselaer County. Public parking and local services are available in Kinderhook, Nassau, and several locations along the route. This segment is primarily an off-road rail-trail with a mix of stonedust and paved surfaces, welcoming walkers and bicyclists of all abilities. However, visitors will encounter several short on-road sections, where trail users share the road with vehicle traffic.
