Trail Overview

This 11-mile Empire State Trail section is part of the 36-mile Albany-Hudson Electric Trail, which runs from the City of Hudson to the City of Rensselaer. The segment starts at Rothermel Park in the Village of Kinderhook, and heads north past woods, streams, lakes, wetlands, farms, and small hamlets. The segment ends at a trailhead parking area in the Village of Nassau, in Rensselaer County. Public parking and local services are available in Kinderhook, Nassau, and several locations along the route. This segment is primarily an off-road rail-trail with a mix of stonedust and paved surfaces, welcoming walkers and bicyclists of all abilities. However, visitors will encounter several short on-road sections, where trail users share the road with vehicle traffic.

Old Dutch Inn

Originally dating back to 1820 and more recently sitting dormant for over two decades, the Old Dutch Inn property has been lovingly restored by a 5th-generation local Kinderhook family. Once described as "the heart of the Village," the Old Dutch Inn restoration coincides with the return of a bustling Village Square where residents and visitors can gather, dine, shop, and begin their exploration of Northern Columbia County's rural charms. Each of the inn's 9 guest rooms retains its delightful idiosyncrasy despite having undergone a rejuvenation to offer modern and luxurious comforts. Updated amenities include ADA accessibility, an elevator, marble finishes in the bathrooms, rainfall showerheads, soaking tubs, smart TV's and advanced air purification technology. The inn's location at the apex of the Kinderhook Village Square affords unparalleled views of and access to Village activities including the seasonal farmers' market, Fourth of July parade and the highly acclaimed Candlelight Night. With proximity to Pick-Your-Own Farms, Historical Attractions and the Albany Hudson Electric Trail, visitors to Old Dutch Inn will be delighted to find themselves at the center of Upper Hudson Valley activity.
