Wallkill Valley Rail Trail

Trail Overview
This off-road Empire State Trail section begins in New Paltz (various public parking options are available in the Village). The route follows the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail 13 miles north to where the trail ends at a parking area at the intersection of Route 32 and Rockwell Lane (2 miles south of downtown Kingston). The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail has a new stonedust surface, welcoming hikers and bicyclists of all ages and abilities (although some cyclists who ride road bikes with narrow, high-pressure tires prefer not to ride on stonedust). The scenic trail winds through mature woods, past historic iron works, and over the historic Rosendale railroad trestle. There are a number of parking areas along the route; however public services are available only in New Paltz and Kingston. Horses are allowed on this trail section.
