Trail Overview
This 20-mile Empire State Trail section is largely an off-road stonedust path, following the Erie Canalway Trail (18 of the 20 miles are off-road trail). The segment starts at Schasel Park, on the east side of Port Byron. The trail is built on the towpath of the historic 19th century Erie Canal, passing through woodlands, farmlands, and small communities. Water has been restored in the eastern section of the canal in Camillus, supporting recreational boats, an Erie Canal museum, and the Nine Mile Creek Aqueduct. This section ends at Reed Webster Park in Camillus. Visitor services are available in Port Byron, Weedsport, and Jordan. There are also many local parks and access points along the trail.
