Trail Overview
This 14-mile Empire State Trail section is an off-road trail welcoming bicyclists and walkers of all abilities. The trail heads east from Genesee Valley Park in south Rochester, following the Erie Canalway Trail through Pittsford to Fairport. Most of this section is a paved asphalt trail, although there is a 5-mile stonedust section (stonedust is finely-ground, compacted limestone). This scenic path is on the north side of the Erie Canal, passing by woodlands, stream crossings, and water views of boats and canal infrastructure. There are a number of municipal parks and trail access points along the route. Services are available in south Rochester and the picturesque Villages of Pittsford and Fairport.
