Trail Overview
This 11-mile Empire State Trail starts in the City of Schenectady and runs east to Lions Park in the Town of Niskayuna. In downtown Schenectady, one mile of the route is designated on city streets (the on-road section runs on Hamilton Ave, Union St, and North Jay St). There are sidewalks along this section. However, bicyclists will be riding on city streets, sharing the road with vehicles. From North Jay Street, trail users access the off-road Erie Canalway Trail heading east. This paved rail-trail, suitable for bicyclists and walkers of all abilities, is part of the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail. This off-road rail-trail segment ends at Lions Park in Niskayuna, where parking and restrooms are available. There are number of access points and pull-off parking areas along this section.
