Trail Overview

The 110-mile portion of the Empire State Trail through the Champlain Valley, from Whitehall to the Canada border at Rouses Point, is entirely an on-road bicycle route. The 30-mile section from Westport to Keeseville follows State Route 22, providing sweeping views of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Champlain, and rural Essex County. It is appropriate for experienced, long-distance bicyclists comfortable riding on roadway shoulders, next to vehicle traffic. This section is not recommended for casual bicycle riders or hikers. Trail users can access a variety of local services in the picturesque hamlets of Westport, Essex, Willsboro, and Keeseville (there are few services between the hamlets).

This lodging on Lake Champlain is located in the historic village of Westport, NY, directly on the lake in the heart of the Adirondacks. The motel is just a short scenic drive from the Olympic Village of Lake Placid and offers very comfortable accommodations in which to relax and explore this beautiful area. Enjoy the spectacular lake and mountain views and warm hospitality. The eight guest rooms provide attractive and comfortable accommodations. Private lake front cottage (sleeps 4-6) in Willsboro, NY. with 1,000 sq. ft. of living space: Two queen-size bedrooms, eat-in kitchen, full bath, living room with queen sleeper sofa and fireplace, and enclosed porch. The cottage also has a TV, CD/DVD player, a selection of books, games, puzzles, and DVDs, microwave, lawn furniture, picnic tables, gas grill, rowboat, and large private dock (not accessible) for swimming and boating and a mooring for larger boats. Within traveling distance to Ausable Chasm, High Falls Gorge, Whiteface Mountain, Santa's Workshop, Lake Placid, Burlington, VT, and Montreal, Canada. Numerous nearby hiking and cycling trails. Beautiful in September and October for fall foliage in the Adirondacks and nearby Vermont. This is a daily rental (three-night minimum) except for the months of July and August, through Labor Day. During these two months it is a weekly rental from Saturday-to-Saturday. Contact them if you would like to book a longer stay.

Long Pond Cabins

These family-oriented NY Adirondack cabin rentals are located on a quiet mountain lake – off the beaten path in two of New York’s most spectacular recreation areas — the Adirondack Park and Lake Champlain Valley. Camping-oriented cabin accommodations feature private docks and spectacular lake and mountain views. Available for two-week minimum rentals (July – August), all cabins are either two- or three-bedroom; have a kitchenette equipped with range, refrigerator, dishes and cooking utensils; a bathroom with a hot shower; a stone campfire ring; a picnic table; and a charcoal grill.
