- 24 miles
- 2 to 2 hours, 30 minutes
- Paved
Trail Overview
The 110-mile portion of the Empire State Trail through the Champlain Valley, from Whitehall to the Canada border at Rouses Point, is entirely an on-road bicycle route. The 24-mile section from Whitehall to Ticonderoga follows State Route 22, providing sweeping views of the Adirondack Mountains, farmlands, and rural Washington County. It is appropriate for experienced, long-distance bicyclists comfortable riding on roadway shoulders, next to vehicle traffic. This section is not recommended for casual bicycle riders or hikers. Trail users can access a variety of local services in the Villages of Whitehall and Ticonderoga (there are no services in the 24 miles between the two Villages).
Cycling Directions
Cue sheets provide step by step navigation instructions for cycling the trail in both directions.
